#Momtruth Musings: Saying Yes More

kids on the shore

Here’s a tale about that day we didn’t plan to swim …. but then I said yes anyway. Because that is what childhood is about! It’s about letting go of perfection.

⁣⁣⁣
I hardly ever remember to bring snacks, so that’s why you see us with drive-thru in the backseat.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Half the time we forget shoes. I started keeping extras in the trunk 😅😅⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Very rarely is an outing perfectly timed, perfectly outfitted, perfectly whatever. ⁣⁣Because over the years I’ve learned it just doesn’t have to be.⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Like, we were going to the beach to dig for treasure. We had little buckets and old spoons and all the things. But no swimming plans. We agreed. So the kids went in their regular clothes. In fact, Wyatt wore his beach tank OVER his jammy shirt 😂🤷🏼‍♀️. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
But then we got there. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
And the second they saw the glittering water … they were like “please mama please?!”⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
And you know what I said?⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Yes! ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
I’ve learned that perfection doesn’t make an outing fun. ⁣⁣
So, yes, my small children, please go in the water and run and dunk and play. Splash your sister and laugh while trying to pick up your brother and watch the tiny ripples break the glassy top of this beautiful landscape around us. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Because I’ve learned … why the heck not? That’s why we left the house. We left to have fun. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
At least that’s what I like to think.
