Cuesta Park has got to have the most beautiful creek in all of SLO. It also has a fun bridge to cross, a nice hiking-without-actually-hiking feel and a playground kids love. The only things I don’t like about it are sometimes there’s a lot of homeless people hanging out there, and the playground ground-cover is made of smelly black pieces of rubber. Aside from that, grab a pal and check it out because it’s really woodsy and pretty.
Heilmann Regional Park in Atascadero is spaceship themed. 🚀 This parks also has a free splash pad in the summer…
The Children’s Area at the Atascadero Library is one of our favorite places to be. It has wooden puzzles, the cutest puppet station, computer games and coloring. It’s also home to a beautiful felted sculpture called the “Radiant Reading Oak” by Atascadero artist Lauren Birkhahn.
Yesterday we visited Joy Playground in Atascadero for the very first time. But first, a little backstory: I was pregnant with Clara six years ago when I first interviewed a group of dedicated parents of children with special needs.
After being under construction for what felt like forever, the Thelma Vetter Red Panda Experience is now open. And thank goodness, because those little cinnamon-tufted mammals are our favorite!
This is me.
in a hotel room.
alone.
on a big fluffy bed.
all to myself.
sitting in silence.
And it’s the actual best.
I had my first night away from the kids — ever! 🎉
Today we explored a segment of the Salinas River Walk that offers Atascadero Creek access, picnic benches and a quaint meadow off San Gabriel Road and Hwy 41 in Atascadero. This post also includes information on more trails in Atascadero, info about the larger Salinas River Walk and the historic de Anza National Historic Trail.
DAY 4 in our #CentralCoastTopNineWonders series takes us along the vast coastline adjacent to Morro Rock at Morro Strand State Beach. This three-mile stretch of coast is my favorite beach. It has sand dunes, the famous snowy plover and prime sanddollar-hunting at low tide.
DAY 3 of our #CentralCoastTopNineWonders is …. iconic Morro Rock.
I’ve always been so in love with this geological staple on our coast. It makes a fantastic backdrop for photos of the kids, and can be seen far away in the distance.
Coming in on DAY 2 of our #CentralCoastTopNineWonders Kiddo Edition are the Nine Sisters mountain range!
The Nine Sisters is a chain of rocky peaks from SLO to Morro Bay that is easily the most distinctive geological landmark welcoming people to our area.
